Introduction
World Space Week (WSW), held every year from 4–10 October, is the world’s largest celebration of space science, technology, and their impact on society. Declared by the United Nations General Assembly, it commemorates two historic milestones: the launch of Sputnik 1 on October 4, 1957, and the signing of the Outer Space Treaty on October 10, 1967. Globally coordinated by the World Space Week Association (WSWA), WSW is celebrated in over 96 countries through events led by space agencies, schools, universities, planetariums, museums, and astronomy clubs.
In Pakistan, World Space Week is led by SUPARCO while The National Center of GIS and Space Applications (NCGSA) and Institute of Space Technology, Islamabad actively contribute to this global celebration by organizing nationwide activities to inspire young minds, engage educators, and promote public awareness about the vast possibilities space science and technology offer for our future.

Our Legacy
Since 2005, the Institute of Space Technology (IST) has proudly led the celebration of World Space Week in Pakistan, serving as a vibrant hub for space-themed learning and exploration. Over the past 20 years, IST has engaged school, college, and university students through immersive STEM and STEAM based activities, competitions, workshops, exhibitions, and hands-on projects, curating more than 200 unique and impactful modules. These efforts have ignited curiosity, nurtured innovation, and built a strong appreciation for the transformative power of space science and technology.
With the launch of the National Center of GIS and Space Applications (NCGSA) in 2020, IST’s space outreach expanded nationwide, championing space education across diverse academic levels. Through World Space Week, NCGSA-IST continues to empower students to think creatively, explore scientific careers, and contribute to the global vision for peaceful and sustainable space exploration. By inspiring the next generation of thinkers and doers, IST remains committed to shaping future leaders in the space sector.
